What to look out for? 

  1. Tenses
  2. Subject-verb agreement 

Ensure that the tense is right. Ask yourself - should this be in the past or present tense? 

Usually, tenses and SVA go hand in hand. 

 

Question 1: 

Which is the subject of the following sentence?

Mice love cheese.

  1. Mice
  2. love
  3. cheese

Answer: 

1) Mice

Explanation: 

In this sentence, mice is the subject, love is a verb and cheese is the object.
So the correct answer is 1) Mice.

 

Question 2: 

Which is the verb of the following sentence?

Joseph does Geniebook worksheets everyday.

  1. does
  2. Joseph
  3. everyday 

Answer: 

1) does 

Explanation:

Joseph is the subject in this sentence and does is the verb. Since Joesph is singular, the verb does is used. 
So the correct answer is 1) does. 

 

Question 3: 

Is there anything wrong with the sentence? If so, where is the mistake?

Finn and Jake heard a loud scream as they was walking to school.

Answer: 

2) were

Explanation:

This one is very simple. As we know tenses & SVA go hand in hand.

Question 4: 

The Earth revolved around the Sun.

Is there anything wrong with the sentence? If so, where is the mistake?

Answer:

The mistake is in the verb used incorrectly as revolved. The correct verb should be revolves.

 

English Concept: Grammar - (Word Forms)

What are word forms: 

  • Verb is an action.
  • Noun is a word used to identify a class of people, place, or things. 
  • Adjective is a word that describes the noun.
  • Adverb is a word used to modify a verb.

Let’s try to fill the word forms in the below table:

decide decision decisive decisively

Question 5:

Upon hearing about the accident, Mr. Lee drove to the hospital instant. 

  1. instantaneous

Answer:

Explanation:

Instant is an adjective.
So the correct answer is 2) instantly (an adverb).

 

Question 6: 

John spilt his drink all over his t-shirt. He felt very embarrass.

  1. embarrassment

For editing, there are two types of spelling “mistakes” that they’d want you to correct.

Example:

  1. Similar-sounding words that actually exist in the English language.

Example: 

The group of boys left there bags in the shop.

There is similar but incorrect. The correct usage is their.

Answer:

Explanation:

Right is an example of the second type of mistake of a similar-sounding word.

This is a grammar type of mistake. Since the sentence is in the past tense.

This is a gibberish type of mistake.

Question 15:
