Secondary 2
English
Similar to Secondary 1, the syllabus in Secondary 2 moves away from grammatical fundamentals and focuses on developing students’ overall mastery of the language in preparation for the more rigorous demands of the upper secondary level. With an emphasis on expository writing, language for impact questions, as well as inference, authorial, and literary techniques to name a few, the syllabus seeks to sharpen students’ analytical capabilities and equip them with the skills to convey ideas in the written and spoken form effectively.
Maths
The Secondary 2 Mathematics syllabus can be broadly divided into 3 categories: Numbers and Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, and Statistics and Probability. It expands on what was taught in Secondary 1 by introducing new topics (eg. Probability and Pythagoras Theorem & Trigonometry) while bringing depth to familiar ones. For example, instead of simply interpreting algebraic notations, students are expected to find the value of an unknown quantity in a formula.
Science
Similar to Secondary 1, the Secondary 2 syllabus is organised into five major themes and focuses on building a strong foundation in the concepts required for the disciplinary Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) when students progress through the upper secondary levels. Students can expect to take a closer look at familiar topics such as the transport systems in plants and human beings and how energy is gained or lost through various means. Meanwhile, new topics such as atoms & molecules, as well as force & pressure, will also be introduced.
